Since 1996, CPWS has been doing electrical safety demonstrations for all 3rd grade students in the Maury County School System. Throughout every school year, CPWS employees go to each school and show the children how to be safe around electricity.
Using a video designed for children and our "demo board," we teach the children what to do if faced with similar situations involving electrical hazards.

Our "demo board" demonstrates a small electrical distribution system with a
substation, distribution lines, poles w/transformers, and a typical house.
Our demo board helps us demonstrate the following situations:
Jacobs ladder...what electricity looks like
Downed power lines
Kite in power line...Where do you fly a kite?
Downed power line on vehicle...do you stay in or get out?
Tree in or near power line...What is a good tree to climb?
Squirrels & other animals causing outages
Television antennas near power lines

Betty Turner & Mark Delk teach 3rd graders about electrical safety.

Cindy Layne explains the effects of an antenna touching a power line.
In 2000, we added a Van de Graaff statoelectric generator to our electrical safety program. It is a fun way to teach students about static electricity.

Johnna Watson demonstrates static electricity.
