FAQ
- How did you conduct the survey?
CPWS used our historical water system maps, work logs, county tax records, and field work to identify both CPWS and customer owned service line material.
- Does CPWS have any lead lines?
No, CPWS does not have any lead mains or lead service lines between the main and CPWS meter. Additionally, as part of the survey, CPWS identified the customer’s water line material at the meter and found no lead lines.
- How would I know if my home is affected?
The use of lead water line pipes was prohibited in 1988. Homes built after 1989 will not have a water service line that contains lead.
- Who owns the lines?
CPWS owns and maintains the water distribution mains and taps up to and including the water meter. All lines past the water meter belong to the customer and are the customer’s responsibility to maintain.
- Can I get a copy of my property’s survey?
Request for property data can be made by contacting for the CPWS Water Engineering Department by phone: 931-388-4833 ext. 7644 or by email: waterdistribution@cpws.com. The requested data will be provided once CPWS staff can validate ownership or a current lease agreement.
- Does CPWS perform water samples?
Yes, in accordance with TDEC guidelines CPWS performs more than 30 water samples annually at locations chosen by TDEC. In addition to the annual sampling requirements, CPWS samples the water every time there is a main break or system repair. This is to ensure the health and safety of our customers and community.
